Smart Energy Home - industry addressing climate change
The Smart Energy Home (SEH) initiative brings together a consortium of leading, innovative companies to address the need for smarter, more energy efficient and healthier homes.
Existing, technically and financially feasible solutions for highly energy-efficient and comfortable houses are not yet widely spread. This market failure not only prevents people from living in an optimal environment, or hinders the sustainability of EU industry, but also contributes to the failure of reaching CO2 emission targets, increased energy source dependence and building-related health problems. The SEH initiative aims to overcome this through a concept of homes that integrate smart technology and solutions that radically reduce resource consumption while enhancing the quality of life of its inhabitants.
A devoted consortium
From the dawn of this idea, B&W has actively been contributing to shaping SEH. We conceptualized the SEH initiative through a feasibility study exploring the State of the Art and the opinions of a wide range of key experts and stakeholders. We defined the strategy together with the initial partners, and we have been supporting these initiators in selecting and inviting complementary partners to form a sustainable, devoted consortium of leading EU companies.
Realizing the vision
These companies join forces to seize the opportunity that lies in addressing the reasons behind the market failure. To reach the desired impact, the initiative focusses on Innovation, Demonstration and Information: Conception of highly integrated solutions for the home environment ; translation of these into highly-visible multi-dwelling developments to demonstrate feasibility ; and providing of applicable information to key players across the value chain from architects to construction engineers to end users.
Creating DEMObuildings in major cities
Hence, through setting concrete actions for strategy implementation, SEH goes further than only establishing a vision. The initiative is teaming up with European real estate developers and cities to conceptualise and build viable multi-dwelling buildings, that follow the SEH principles, in major European cities.
